The Wawa Family Health Team offers a nursing clinic for diabetes testing and dietary information once a month and another nursing clinic for blood pressure testing and health counseling.

Donations of non-perishable food items can be made at John’s Valu-Mart (look for their cart). Food items and plastic shopping bags can also be donated in the black donation bin at the main entrance of 96 Broadway (the former medical center).

ALGOMA FAMILY SERVICES is a confidential child, adolescent and family counselling service that is available to residents of Wawa, Missanabie, Dubreuilville and White River on a voluntary basis and free of charge. The counsellors offer individual, family and group counselling to children, teens and their families who may be experiencing difficulties with discipline, feelings and behavior. Counsellors travel weekly to White River, Dubreuilville and as needed to Missinabie. For more information, please call collect at 1-705-856-2252 or drop into the Wawa Office at 26 Ste. Marie Street.

SCARED? FEELING ALONE? Do you need help? Sault Area Hospital offers a free and confidential crisis hotline 1-800-721-0077, 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. This service is provided for those 16 years and older, and consists of a team of crisis intervention workers and a mobile crisis response team. They provide assistance for those in crisis and their family members.

CHADWIC HOME offers emergency shelter, support, advocacy, information and referral for women (16 years of age and over, and their children) who are in an abusive or crisis situation. Women can drop-in to the shelter, or call our toll-free Crisis Line for support at 1-800-461-2242 anytime. Toll-free TTY is 1-855-856-4342. Workers travel regularly to Hornepayne, White River, Chapleau and will travel to Dubreuilville and Missinabie as needed. Emergency transportation to the shelter can be arranged.
