Weather – Cloudy. Rain beginning this morning. Risk of thunderstorms this afternoon. Amount 15 to 25 mm. Wind becoming southeast 30 km/h gusting to 50 near noon. High 19.

Marine – Strong wind warning in effect.Wind southeast 15 knots increasing to southeast 20 early this morning then backing to east 25 near noon. Wind veering to southeast 20 this evening then backing to northeast 20 near midnight. Wind backing to north 20 Friday morning then to northwest 20 Friday evening.

News Tidbits – Forest fires in the Northwest of Ontario are increasing. From the MNR “There were 4 new fires confirmed by the afternoon of August 15 in the Northwest Region and 20 new fires confirmed by day’s end on August 16. Despite a number of small fires being declared out, multiple fires remain active in the region, totalling 152 active fires. One fire of note that may cause smoky conditions along the TransCanada highway north of Nipigon is fire number 099 in the Kama Hill area. A travel advisory has been issued in order to ensure firefighter and public safety.”
