The Canada Transportation Safety Board (TSB) is holding a news conference in Sudbury today to make public the details on their investigation of the March 7, 2015 derailment, when cars from a CN crude oil train left the tracks near the Makami River bridge. There was a huge blaze that burned for several days, and although there were no injuries there was significant damage to the environment which is still being remediated. The residents of Gogama have been vocal about the damage that remains.

The event will be broadcast live on http://www.ivsproductions.ca/webcast/.

This was the second derailment to happen on the CN mainline near Gogama in a three-week period. On Feb. 14, 2015 a derailment  occurred about 30 kilometres west of Gogama on a remote stretch of track. Twenty-nine tank cars were derailed, 19 of them burst and the ensuing fire was left to burn for six days. Joint-bars failed causing the derailment, and it was noted that the speed of the train (less than 40 mph, might also be a factor in extremely cold weather).
