Weather – Sunny this morning and early this afternoon then a mix of sun and cloud with 30 percent chance of showers late this afternoon. Risk of a thunderstorm late this afternoon. High 23. Humidex 28. UV index 8 or very high. Lake Superior – Wind variable 10 knots increasing to west 15 this afternoon then diminishing to light this evening. Wind becoming south 10 Monday evening.

 

News Tidbits: Forest Fires – One new fire was discovered the evening of July 28, Wawa 10 is being held at 1 hectare. By the afternoon of July 29, two new fires have been discovered. Chapleau 2 is not under control at 0.4 of a hectare and Sudbury 10 is out at 0.1 of a hectare.

There are currently 15 active fires in the region, 11 of which are being observed in the far north for ecological benefits. Kirkland lake 4 is under control at 4 hectares and Cochrane 20 is being held at 12 hectares.

The forest fire hazard is currently low to extreme, with the areas of most concern located in the central and northern portions of the region.
