MP Terry Sheehan announced $1.45 million to support clean technology being developed by Heliene Inc. yesterday, June 19th in Sault Ste. Marie. This project is being funded through Sustainable Development Technology Canada, which works with Canadian companies to bring early-stage clean technologies to market.

These innovations will lead to well-paying, middle-class jobs and new business opportunities for Canadians. They will also lead to cleaner technologies that result in less air pollution and healthier communities.

“During the 2015 federal election campaign, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visited Heliene Inc. and promised to help diversify the local and Canadian economy by investing in clean technology. Today’s announcement is an example of a promise made and a promise kept,” said Sheehan.

Investments in clean technology are part of the Government’s Innovation and Skills Plan, a multi-year strategy to create well-paying jobs for the middle class and those working hard to join it.

“Striving for operational excellence through flexibility and rapid innovation has been the key for our Sault Ste. Marie company’s resilience and success thus far. Looking ahead and thanks to this Federal Funding, the iPV project will introduce a new revolutionary product targeting the fast-growing Smart Grid market that will meaningfully diversify Heliene’s business model. Heliene’s bright future is supported by pent up and expanding demand in the key target clean tech market, an area of focus for economic development clearly identified by the Liberal Government and our MP Terry Sheehan.” – Martin Pochtaruk, President, Heliene Inc.

“Our government’s investments in clean technology reflect our commitment to protecting the planet. But it also points to a clear and strategic direction for economic development through innovation. That’s because innovations in clean tech will lead to products and services that have an impact on all sectors of the economy. And clean tech has the potential to create thousands of well-paying jobs for Canadians. That’s how innovation leads to a better Canada.” – David Lametti, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development
