“The days are long since my Jean has gone”.

On Tuesday, October 16, 2007, our father, in his 89th year, with his family by his side, passed into the arms of the Lord and was reunited with his beloved wife of 66 years, Jeanette (deceased Oct. 22, 2006)

A kind and patient father and grandfather, James will be lovingly remembered by the wonderful legacy he leaves us.  Much loved father to James (Ethel), Catherine (Brian), Denis (Karen), Noreen (Heinz) and Sharon (Mike). A devoted Grandpa, Jim was blessed with fourteen grandchildren, who will always love and cherish his memory and nine great grandchildren, who are going to miss their great grandpapa.

James was born on June 10, 1918 to James and Johanna Lacey and will be fondly remembered by his brother, Tom (Eva), sister’s in-law Irene (late Robert), Susan (late Lewis). Jim was also predeceased by his brother Pat (Jessie) and sister Kitty (Jim).

Jim served in the British army during WW2 and married the love of his life, Jeannette Jenkins on December 26, 1940. They emigrated from Scotland in 1957 and settled in Wawa. Jim, a baker by trade, was known for his tasty scones, shortbread and sausage rolls to name a few. He worked at Algoma Ore Division and will be remembered for his keen sense of humour. Many a young apprentice can recall spending time in “Lacey’s Palatology Shack” enjoying Scotty’s wit and baking.  Upon his retirement, Jim and Jean moved to Sault Ste. Marie where they enjoyed many happy years together.

Jim was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 429 and the Knights of Columbus.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at St, Monica's Church, Wawa on Saturday morning, October, 20th at 11 a.m. Friends are invited to come and share their fond memories of Scotty, Friday evening at GILMARTIN FUNERAL HOME, 140 Churchill Avenue from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Internment Woodland Cemetery. Some sunny day.
